Introducing the smartocto User Needs Lab: unlocking the power of user-centric journalism
In a rapidly changing media landscape, understanding your audience is paramount. The User Needs Labs brings a selected group of organisations together to focus on user-centric journalism, collaboration, and effective content implementation. It provides newsrooms with consulting and cutting-edge editorial tools to maximise the user needs approach. The project will run for 6 months, starting September 2023 and consists of 2 different packages:
- The Strategic Package - focus on historical insights and reports. Suited for newsrooms that are implementing user needs phase by phase and measure impact across time.
- The Actionable Package - focus on real time insights, notifications and dashboards. Suited for newsrooms that already put user needs at their core. Real time tracking and notifications take them to the next level.
Both project groups will be heavily supported through the project groups, where all participants will regularly meet and discuss challenges and results. On top of that, the project will be guided by advocates of the User Needs for News model Dmitry Shishkin and Rutger Verhoeven.
The value of a story - in relation to your business goals - can already be calculated with the Story Value Engine. It's based on the CPI (content performance indicator): a compound metric that includes insights on reach, engagement and loyalty around every story you publish.
But many of our clients are also interested in what they call the ‘public value’: what's the impact of a story in a social sense? How does it correspond to their mission or company message?
There are many ways to determine the impact of those 'signature stories' that fit your brand's mission statement best. But we are improving our system, to make it possible to calculate this mission value in real time. This will help you optimise your online impact, to make a public impact as well. What we do
Our primary aim is to make it easier for newsrooms and content creators to optimise their online storytelling and create more impact with their publications. We make data accessible, actionable and easy to digest.
