What are cookies?
What are Cookies, Tags/Beacons en JavaScripts?
Websites use handy and useful techniques that increase ease of use and make the site as interesting as possible for every visitor. The best-known examples of this type of technology are cookies and scripts (hereinafter collectively referred to as “cookies”). Cookies can be used by website owners or third parties - advertisers, for example - who communicate through the websites you visit.
The use of cookies is safe. No personal information, such as a telephone number or an email-address, can be derived from cookies. Cookies cannot therefore be used for email and telemarketing campaigns.
To determine which parts of the websites are of most interest to our visitors, we try to measure continuously using the Google Analytics software. For this we use cookies, tags / beacons and JavaScript so that we can recognise the browser and thus measure the number of visitors to our websites. Beacons and tags are synonyms. Tags are used to measure visits and use of websites.
Statistics are made of the information we collect in this way. These statistics give us insight into how often our web pages are visited, where visitors spend the most time, and so on. This enables us to make the structure, navigation and content of the websites as user-friendly as possible. We cannot trace the statistics and other reports back to people.
We think it is very important that you know which cookies our websites use and for what purposes they are used. We would like to guarantee your privacy and the user-friendliness of our websites as much as possible. Below you can read more about the cookies used by and via our websites and for what purposes.
This cookie statement applies to the following SmartOcto websites:
Functional Cookies
Cookies that ensure that these websites function properly
The SmartOcto websites use cookies to ensure that our websites work properly. For example, we use cookies for:
- detecting abuse of our websites and services
- evenly taxing the website, so that the site remains accessible
- make it possible to respond to our websites
- preventing duplicate windows when giving feedback.
Website statistics
Cookies with which we can measure the use of the websites.
We cannot trace the statistics and other reports to persons (see also paragraph on privacy-friendly setting of Google Analytics later in this statement).
We use cookies, tags / beacons and JavaScript for:
- Tracking the number of visitors to our web pages
- Tracking the amount of time each visitor spends on our web pages
- Determining the order in which a visitor visits the different pages of our websites
- Assessing which parts of our site require modification
- Optimising the website
Advertisement cookies
Cookies to display advertisements
Some websites may show you advertisements. Some of these advertisements (or video messages) use cookies. These advertisements are placed on our websites by third parties.
If such cookies are not used, you will still be able to see advertisements. After all, advertisements are also displayed that do not use cookies.
Disable advertising cookies:
If you do not want third-party cookies, you can opt out via the so-called opt-out scheme. You can access this at the bottom of our Cookies and Privacy page.
Social Media cookies
Cookies to share the content of our websites via social media
The videos you view on our websites may place cookies. Social media cookies from the social media parties are used for the functioning of these video players. Social media content may include advertisements, for which cookies may be placed.
For the cookies that the social media parties place and the possible data they collect with them, we also refer to the statements that these parties give on their own websites; see the links below. Please note that these statements can change regularly. The smartocto websites have no influence on this.
Other cookies
This category contains cookies that cannot be placed in any of the other categories of cookies. These include, for example, cookies that are used on some of the sites within smartocto to facilitate site visits and improve the user experience. An example of this are the cookies that are enabled to create your own web analysis and to optimise sites. Statistics can be made of the information collected with the help of these cookies. These statistics provide insight into how often the web pages are visited, where visitors spend the most time, and so on. This enables smartocto to make the structure, navigation and content of the websites as user-friendly as possible. These analytical cookies from smartocto, like cookies from the category "analytical cookies", are used for:
- tracking the number of visitors to our web pages
- tracking the amount of time each visitor spends on our web pages
- determining the order in which a visitor visits the different pages of our websites
- assessing which parts of our site need updating to optimise the website
Due to the way the internet and websites work, it is possible that services that are engaged by us will place different cookies through our websites than those stated in the overviews. If you come across cookies from smartocto on these websites that cannot be placed in one of the other categories, please let us know.
Unforeseen cookies
Due to the way the internet and websites work, we may not always have insight into the cookies placed by third parties via our websites. This is especially the case if our web pages contain so-called embedded elements; these are texts, documents, pictures or videos that are stored with another party, but that are shown on or in our websites.
If you come across cookies on this website that fall into this category and that we have not mentioned, please let us know. Or contact the third party directly and ask which cookies they have placed, what the reason is, what the lifetime of the cookie is and how they have guaranteed your privacy.
Browser settings
If you do not want websites to place cookies on your computer at all, you can adjust your browser settings so that you receive a warning before cookies are placed. You can also adjust the settings so that your browser refuses all cookies or only cookies from third parties. You can also delete your cookies that have already been placed. Please note that you have to adjust the settings separately for each browser and computer you use.
Be aware that if you do not want cookies, we can no longer guarantee that our websites will work properly. It is possible that some functions of the site are lost or even that you can no longer see certain websites at all. In addition, refusing cookies does not mean that you will no longer see advertisements. The ads are then no longer tailored to your interests and are repeated more often.
How you can adjust your settings differs per browser. If necessary, consult the help function of your browser, or click on one of the icons below to go directly to the manual of your browser.
