At the risk of stating the obvious, our website is in English. What possibly isn’t so obvious is that our notifications and dashboards don’t have to be.

Yes, that’s right: smartocto notifications work in all languages.

Our primary goal with our tool is to ensure that there’s as little friction for users as possible - and clearly if your mother tongue is French, or Spanish, or Italian, or any other number of languages - the last thing you need are notifications which require a dictionary to understand.

How does it work?

Some elements are ready to go; others require a little bit of set up. But don’t let that put you off. The process doesn’t take long and having the system set up for you, in your native tongue will be a game changer.

Here’s where we stand as of Spring 2025:

Headliner (in smartocto AI) - works in all languages (as long as the LLM provider supports it)

Notifications - We currently offer notifications in English, Dutch, German, Spanish, and Serbian (Croatian). Users with other language preferences typically receive notifications in English, but we can provide translations in their preferred language upon request. Since it's essentially just translating the message of the notification, adding a new language is no problem.

Real time - currently in English only

Insights - we can work with the client to translate the Insights part of the tool, and then we can add that language as an option. It currently supports English, Spanish, Macedonian and Albanian.

smartocto.ai - it depends if the LLM provider supports the language in question, but most of the languages we’ve tested worked just fine (European ones, even Bengali and Indonesian).

“If your language isn’t currently supported, we’ll send you the instructions on how to translate the app and the text within it, we will implement those translations, and that should be it! You’re good to go”

And, while we’re talking languages, let’s talk user needs, shall we?

We know that newsrooms are excited and motivated by this paradigm shift and we’re pleased to say that our universal wheel of user needs poster is also now available in Dutch, German, Spanish and French. German speakers can also download the emblems for internal use.
